Poultney, Vermont Accommodations

Poultney is located in Rutland County, Vermont, and is the home of Green Mountain College, a liberal arts college that specializes in environmental studies. The town has a population of 3,600 and boasts several bed and breakfast inns. Nearby areas in Rutland County and further afield in New York offer more accommodation options within a short distance.

    • The Poultney Chamber of Commerce lists nine bread and breakfast inns in the Poultney area. Three of these inns--Twin Mountains Farm, Maplewood Inn and The Sheldon Mansion--are categorized as historic. Twin Mountains and Maplewood Inn both herald from the early 1800s, and The Sheldon Mansion was built in 1903. All of the bread and breakfast inns are privately owned and offer private baths and home-cooked breakfast. In addition, some properties also feature patios and outside areas for the guests' use. As of 2011, room rates range from $100 to $150 per night and include breakfast.

    Motels

    • Poultney does not have motels, but in nearby Hampton, N.Y., Panorama Motel offers 13 guest rooms, all with mountain views and private patios. In high season (May to October), Panorama offers additional accommodation in a three-room cottage on the grounds that has its own front porch and enclosed back garden. All rooms have coffee and tea making facilities, refrigerators, microwaves and wireless Internet. As of 2011, room rates start at $70 per night for two people, children under 15 years old stay for free and pets are welcome for an additional $6 per night.

    Hotels

    • The Budget Inn in nearby Whitehall, N.Y., not only is located conveniently close to Poultney but also to such attractions as Six Flags and the Water Slide World. The hotel is part of the Magnuson Hotels group and offers a 24-hour front-desk service and free parking on-site. As of 2011, room rates start at $70 per night for two people. A little farther away in Rutland, large hotel chains like Ramada and Comfort Inn offer modern conveniences, including meeting rooms, indoor pools and bar and lounge areas.

    Camping

    • The 117-acre Lake St. Catherine State Park in Poultney has 50 sites for tents and trailers. The park features hot showers and flush toilets, and popular activities in the area include swimming, fishing and boating. The park used to function as a summer camp and farmland for children. Camping reservations can be made well in advance through the Vermont State Parks website.
