Eads was first named Dayton, then New Dayton, before settling on its current name after the engineer, James Buchman Eads, who designed the bridge over Mississippi and St. Louis. With a population of less than 1,000 people, Eads is part of Kiowa County "where the sun first shines on Colorado" making the crystal blue skies and vast prairies a site to see. Located only two to three hours away from Denver or Colorado Springs, Econo Lodge Eads is the only hotel in town, but there are other accommodations less than 40 minutes away in Lamar.
