How to Register Vintage Snowmobiles in New Hampshire

New Hampshire defines a snowmobile as an antique if it is older than 25 years, according to the 2011 New Hampshire Recreational Vehicle Laws Digest. To register an antique snowmobile, you need documents that provide proof of age, ownership and size. You must also be a New Hampshire resident to register a snowmobile as an antique. As of 2010, the antique snowmobile registration was $50.50, less than the newer snowmobile registration costs.

Things You'll Need

  • Snowmobile bill of sale
  • Snowmobile identification number
  • Snowmobile title

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the nearest branch of the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles for your locale (see resource 1). Go to the DMV and request the form for Off Highway Recreational Vehicles (OHRV) or snowmobiles. Tell the clerk you need the antique snowmobile form to go along with this.

    • 2

Fill the forms out completely. You will need documents proving the age of the snowmobile, title and proof of ownership. The title can suffice for all of these, if it is valid. You will need the snowmobile's vehicle number. This can be found under the cowling of the snowmobile or in the user manual. You must also present a valid driver's license or state issued ID and be 18 years old. You can only register the snowmobile in person; you cannot do this online.

Present the completed forms, along with the registration fee, to the clerk. Wait for the clerk to return with the two decals and updated registration certificate.

    • 4

Place the stickers, one in each corner, on the snowmobile's cowling.
