Patton is a small town in Pennsylvania a two-hour drive east of Pittsburgh. It has no hotels, but towns nearby offer a variety of accommodations. Visit Prince Gallitzin State Park for fishing, hiking or horseback riding and mountain biking, or take your dirt bike or ATV to the Run Rock Recreation Area in Patton, and explore its 70 miles of trails.
Less than 40 miles northwest of Patton is the town of Punxsutawney, famous for its Groundhog Day festivities. The Pantall Hotel and Conference Center has 58 rooms and banquet facilities. Breakfast is the only meal served in the dining room, but the hotel does have a Victorian bar that offers weekend entertainment. A host of fast food restaurants occupy Punxsutawney, or try Punxy Phil's Family Restaurant. A choice of nonsmoking rooms can be reserved for less than $100 per night as of 2011.
Party at the City Hotel Bar and Grill 20 minutes west of downtown Patton in the town of Northern Cambria. Nightlife reigns supreme in this hotel, where the convenience of not having to drive to your hotel room is a priority for visitors. Serving lunch and dinner, the Bar and Grill is known for its desserts and draft beer. Accommodations range between $100 and $200 per night as of 2011 for the nonsmoking rooms.
Four floors that house 100 guest rooms, along with its meeting room, indoor pool and fitness room comprise the Courtyard by Marriott Altoona Hotel. A breakfast buffet is provided at the cafe, but near the hotel are plenty of restaurants of various cuisines from American, Italian and Japanese to Mediterranean. The standard rate for rooms is between $75 and $200 per night, but call ahead to see if packages or specials are available. Allow at least 40 minutes to get to downtown Patton.
Fans of the railroad will enjoy the Station Inn in Cresson, just 20 minutes south of downtown Patton. The self-proclaimed "classic mountain resort hotel" sits right off the track. All of the beds are twin-size, and you can get a room that has between one and four beds. Children under age 8 are discouraged from staying here, and pets are not allowed. Extensive remodeling was expected to be completed by September 2011, so call ahead to see if the accommodations you want are available. Rates in early 2011 run from $55 to $165 per night.
