The town of Canelo, Arizona is a ghost town and is not recognized by the state as a current city. Although the town has been deserted, it did lend its name to the surrounding area called the Canelo Hills. This area is now known as wine country and is home to several wineries, such as the Canelo Hills Vineyard and Winery. There are no hotels in Canelo; however, there are several in the city of Sierra Vista, which is 18.2 miles to the east. Sierra Vista has many opportunities for outdoor recreation, bird watching and sightseeing.
