Located on Highway 52 in Preston, the Country Trails Inn & Suites is approximately five miles from Fountain. It's a two-story, smoke-free accommodation with 40 guestrooms, including six whirlpool suites. It boasts an indoor swimming pool and spa, and a hearth room with a fireplace. Travelers to the area can enjoy biking -- the hotel is just blocks from the Root River State Bike Trail and the Harmony-Preston State Bike Trail -- as well as fishing, canoeing and tubing in the Root River. There are opportunities for hunting, horseback riding and snowmobiling as well. Tourist attractions include the Amish Tour and you can visit the area's apple farms. There's plenty of dining in town at restaurants that include the Branding Iron Supper Club and Los Gables Mexican Restaurant. The hotel offers several specials, including winter deals and golf and snowmobiling packages.
The Trailshead Inn is also in Preston and provides a choice of standard rooms and suites. The suites are at Trailhead Suites, which is jointly operated with the Inn. It's located directly adjacent to the Inn in a renovated elementary school. Each suite features a living room, dining room and a full kitchen. The area is renowned for its snowmobling and skiing, and the Trailshead Inn provides easy access to several groomed snowmobile trails. If you visit during the spring or summer, you'll find fishing opportunities on the nearby Root River, where smallmouth bass, catfish, northern pike and carp abound. The hotel also offers bike rentals to use on the Root River State Bike Trail. While in Preston, you can also visit the Preston Berry Farm or play a round on the Preston Golf Course.
Brewster's Red Hotel is in Lanesboro, about 10 miles east of Fountain. Biking and fishing enthusiasts will be happy to discover the hotel is situated directly across from the Root River and the Root River State Trail. Brewster's has six rooms and four apartments, as well as cottage rentals on the property, such as Brewster's Landing, which boasts three bedrooms, a living room, full kitchen and a deck that overlooks the river. A minimum stay of two nights is required on weekends from April through October, and three nights are required on certain holidays. Visitors can take in a performance at the Commonweal Theater or tour historic Lanesboro.
The Stonemill Suites Historic Inn is also located in Lanesboro. The stone structure was built in 1885 as a cold-storage facility. It was converted to grain facility in the 1950s and then turned into a hotel in 2000. The inn's rooms and suites are themed and have names such as the Farm Loft Suite, with a reading and sleeping loft; the Garden Loft Suite, which boasts and iron-claw fireplace; and the Amish Room, which has a private entrance. Many of the rooms have double whirlpool tubs, and the Inn offers guests a free continental breakfast. From Memorial Day through October, two-night stays are required on weekends.
