Richmond is a county in northeastern Georgia on the state's border with South Carolina. Augusta, the county seat, with its rich past and exceptional natural splendor, draws many tourists to Richmond County, which, together with Augusta, has formed a consolidated government known as Augusta-Richmond County. The county is named for the Third Duke of Richmond who, as British Secretary of State in 1777, was supportive of the cause of the American colonies. A number of good hotels in the county cater to both tourists and business travelers.
The Partridge Inn, which was first established in 1892, has offered a peaceful haven of hospitality to many important personalities including heads of state, industry leaders and well-known icons. The hotel's renovations included adding a modern exercise facility, a sheltered outdoor pool and balconies and verandas around the exterior of the guestrooms. The Partridge Inn is set on a hilltop in Summerville, just minutes from the tempting sights and features of downtown Augusta.
The La Quinta Inn is located just a short distance from the much celebrated Augusta Golf Club, where the annual PGA Masters golf tournament is held. It is also handy to Augusta’s Art Museum as well as Fort Discovery Science Center. Apart from the hotel’s 129 guest rooms, it has large rooms for both business and personal meetings. You will be able to cool off in the hotel’s sparkling swimming pool, which is in the hotel’s courtyard. This is a well-located venue for visitors coming to Augusta for the Fort Gordon Military Base, the Medical College of Georgia, and the many other hospitals, colleges and businesses of the area.
The Hampton Inn is set alongside the lazy Savannah River with its banks of azaleas and close to the Augusta Golf Club. The inn, which you can find on Washington Road near Interstate 20, is within reach of many of the city’s better known tourist venues, such as the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, the city's main venue for ballet and symphony concerts. Augusta’s History Museum, also nearby, features local artifacts that go right back to the founding of the state in 1736. Breakfast is on the house, but if you are in a rush you can take advantage of a complimentary “On the Run” breakfast bag.
