New River Valley in Virginia has a history of toil and struggle as pioneers went west to seek their fortune in the 1800s. The landscape was harsh and the settlements were built on land that was the sight of much bloodshed. There are reports of many hauntings in the area, and even on deserted roads ghosts have been seen.
St. Albans Psychiatric Hospital stands over the New River at Radford and was built originally as a boys school and then converted into a sanatorium. The site is now used mainly by Radford University but many of the oldest buildings are unused. The Seven Hills Paranormal Society has investigated this site and has reported "shadow people," or unseen presences. During its investigation the society also reported a mysterious ball of light hovering near the floor which then disappeared. One investigator felt she had been shoved in the chest and footsteps were heard throughout the hospital. Voices were also heard saying "God, I want to die" and "Tasha, we need to hide."
