A home built in Denton, Maryland in 1750 by one James Willson is today believed to be haunted by a young woman named Annie Belle Carter. In 1882, Annie returned home from her studies abroad and fell ill. When she went out onto a second-floor porch to get some air, she reportedly fainted, fell two stories and died at the age of seventeen. Since 1882, there have been numerous sightings of Annie in a white dress.
Patty Cannon's house is located in Reliance, Maryland in Caroline County. Patty Cannon was a large, strong and ferocious woman who lived in the 1800s. She was infamous for capturing free African Americans and selling them into slavery. In 1829, Patty Cannon was arrested for several murders. Before her trial, she killed herself with poison. Her house is said by subsequent owners to be haunted; visitors can hear strange noises and even footsteps in the house, and some have mentioned the sense of a hostile presence.
Sallie Dean was a 13-year-old girl from Harmony, Maryland. She was murdered in 1895 by a local blacksmith named Marshall Price. Families who have since occupied her home have reported paranormal activity and odd occurances.
