Rifle, founded in 1882, is a historic town in the Colorado county of Garfield. The town is named after an incident that involved a trapper who mistakenly left his rifle along its creek. Rifle is known for its location at the "Bookcliffs," lines of sediment and shale that look like the pages of a book.
