Kaneohe is on the opposite side of the island of Oahu. Also known as the windward side, Kaneohe faces the prevailing winds, and, as a result, has something of a rare climate with rain forest-like vegetation and one of the best bays on the whole island. The area is becoming more and more like a big city suburb but as of now some of the original charm still exists.
Located five miles to the west along the Kaneohe shoreline, Schrader's Windward Country Inn is a small, one-man operation which has been in the same location for more than 30 years. Schrader's was named for its location on the eastern side of the island because of its position in the face of the winds of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. Nearby guests will find the Laenani Beach Park, Kahaluu Pond and Kaneohe Bay. The inn is very nicely laid out with outdoor verandas and Hawaiian-style furnishings, swimming pool, spa, picnic tables and barbecue grill. All guest suites and cottages are nicely appointed with open windows and a breezy atmosphere, air conditioning, color television, microwave oven, refrigerator, private lanai and maid service. The larger suites and cottages also feature full kitchens. Rates for a standard studio start at $98, as of October 2010.
