The town of Kearney, Nebraska is home to Fort Kearney, established in 1848. The fort was constructed to offer shelter to people traveling west during the great gold rush. Today, the town is home to around 27,000 residents and is located along Interstate 80. This has brought tourism to the area and several hotels have sprung up near the fort.

As of January 2011, pets are allowed to stay at the hotel for a one-time fee of $10. In addition to a daily hot breakfast buffet, the hotel has an in-house restaurant, Sydney's, which offers a full menu for lunch and dinner. Other nearby restaurants include the Thunderhead Brewery or Cunningham's Loft. In addition to the fort itself, guests of the hotel may wish to visit the Fort Kearney Museum, located less than a mile away.
The Holiday Inn in Kearney is about a 10-minute drive from Fort Kearney. This hotel offers all of the basic amenities, along with special features like Captain's Lagoon, an indoor water park for the whole family. The park has 30-foot slides, plenty of room to play and splash and even a separate kids' pool for smaller children. The hotel also has a fitness center and a video game room. The in-house restaurant, Venue, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in the dining room or the meal may be delivered to rooms. Kids eat free at this restaurant. When guests are done visiting Fort Kearney, the Buffalo County Fairgrounds are within a few minutes.
