Hotels near Fort Peck, MT

Fort Peck is a small town located in northeastern Montana named after Colonel Campbell Peck, who owned a trading company from 1867 to 1873. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers built the town in the mid 1930s to house employees during the construction of the Fort Peck Dam. The purpose of the dam was to help boost a falling economy during the Great Depression, and it provided more than 10,000 jobs. During its early years, the Fort Peck Dam prompted the generation of many shantytowns in the area. At the 2000 census, Fort Peck had only 240 residents.
