Visitors to the Fort Apache area in Arizona will have difficulty finding a hotel directly in the Apache National Forest area. While this location is perfect for camping or RVing, in order to find a hotel or motel visitors will need to go to the nearby lakeside resort town of Pinetop. Pinetop is a popular summer recreational area for local Arizonians as well as travelers from farther away because of the wealth of outdoor activities available including hiking, boating and golfing.
The Hon-Dah Resort and Casino offers visitors over 800 machines to choose from as well as lodging at its hotel. The hotel has a year-round pool and sauna that is open to guests and a number of packages for skiing, golfing and fishing. The Indian Pine Restaurant, a casual dining location on the premises, has options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch and room service. Entertainment is offered many nights at the Timbers Lounge, including live music and variety shows.
Visitors at the Best Western Inn have easy walking access to downtown Pinetop, which offers boutique shopping in antique stores and other small, locally-owned stores. Dining in Pinetop includes a variety of restaurants such as Charlie Clark's Steakhouse, Cafe Grotto, Darbi's Cafe, Lotus garden, Red Devil Pizza and El Rancho Restaurant. Throughout the year the town of Pinetop is known for holding Native American ceremonies, the Pines Car Show, the Woodland Holiday Lighting Ceremony and a bluegrass festival.
Guests staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Pinetop have the opportunity to explore the many nearby trails. The White Mountains Trail System, located in the Apache National Forest, has over 30 miles of connected trails for walking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Trails go through areas of petrified forests, ice caves and lakes to offer spectacular views of nature and wildlife. Camping is also available in the Apache National Forest for visitors who wish to get away from the hotel for a few days and explore the area further.
The Woodland Inn and Suites is located 25 miles from the Sunrise Ski Resort, and offers lift tickets at the front desk so that guests do not have to wait in line for skiing. The staff at the Woodland Inn and Suites can also help visitors find areas to fish nearby, as the Apache National Forest has miles of streams and lakes to choose from. There are also more than eight golf courses where visitors can enjoy nature while getting some exercise. Nearby golf courses include the Pinetop Country Club, the Torreon Golf Course and Pinetop Lakes and Golf Club.
