In a tradition dating to January 1, 1890, the legendary and colorful Rose Parade is an important part of the Tournament of Roses on New Year's Day in Pasadena, California. The event attracts an estimated 760,000 spectators. Six hotels or motels directly overlook its 5.5-mile route, complete with marching bands, equestrian units and intricate floats.
International deluxe hotel group Dusit opened its first U.S. hotel, DusitD2 Constance Pasadena in September 2014. It is the only hotel directly overlooking the Rose Parade route. The hotel is an upscale, contemporary restoration of a historic 1926 property with 136 rooms and suites, a restaurant with lounge, and an outdoor fountain courtyard; a rooftop pool and bar is planned for the future. Some rooms feature terraces.
Five Pasadena motels directly overlook the parade route. Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Ramada, Saga Motor Hotel and Vagabond Inn are all located on E. Colorado Blvd. All are situated on the north side of the boulevard with the exception of the Ramada. Each of these motels has free continental breakfast, and the Saga Motor Hotel has an outdoor pool.
