Portland, OR Historic Hotels

Portland is not just the largest city in Oregon, it is also the 28th-largest metropolitan area in the country. Those visiting the "big city with the small town feel" can stay at one of the city's historic hotels.

  1. Downtown Area

    • The Governor Hotel is a six-story, 100-room hotel that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel opened in downtown Portland in 1909. It was designed by architect William C. Knighton, who incorporated a bell-theme into the hotel's design.

    Cultural District

    • The historic Heathman Hotel is the only hotel in the cultural district of Portland. It opened in 1927, and was built in Italian Renaissance style. A distinctive feature of this hotel is the extensive collection of artwork by artists such as Andy Warhol and Hank Panders.

    The Pearl District

    • The Benson Hotel opened its doors to the public on March 5, 1913. The hotel, which was built by and named after Simon Benson, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Upon opening, the hotel had 200 guest rooms. In 1959, Benson expanded the facility and added 175 guest rooms.
