The Summerlin community in western Las Vegas is approximately 15 minutes from the gaming action at the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. This planned community was the brainchild of famed inventor, Howard Hughes, and is a primarily residential neighborhood, with shopping centers, restaurants and a bicycle trail system. There are no motels in Summerlin, but tourists can find reasonably priced motel-style accommodations near the Strip and North Las Vegas.
The palm-tree surrounded La Quinta Inn, at five minutes away, is the closest motel-style accommodation to Summerlin. A possible day trip from the motel would be a 30-minute jaunt to the Lake Mead Recreation Area, which offers fishing and boating in Las Vegas Bay, as well as hiking trails and scenic routes that feature overlook points for photo opportunities. Off-site dining is within five minutes of the motel on North Las Vegas Boulevard.
