Things to Do in Summerlin, Las Vegas

The area of Summerlin, on the west side of the Las Vegas, Nevada valley, is a 22,500-acre, master planned community that targets adventurers and families. Summerlin is in close proximity to beautiful recreation areas and mountains, and the urban areas offer dining, shopping, golf and casino options.

  1. Outdoor Recreation

    • While there are an impressive number of community parks within Summerlin, the predominant place to go if looking for outdoor fun is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The 197,000-acre park is home to red rock formations, geological features and Mojave Desert plants. Besides taking in the scenery and snapping photographs within the park, visitors can spend their time hiking, biking or running. There is a visitor's center as well as some interpretive trails. Red Rock is world-renowned for its rock climbing--the sandstone crags draw in climbers from around the world.

    Casinos

    • There are several casino-resorts in the Summerlin area, but the biggest and most popular is the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa. Besides a full-service casino, offering slots and video poker, table games, a poker room, a race and sports book, a keno lounge and a bingo parlor, Red Rock also boasts indoor and outdoor entertainment venues, a spa, nightclubs, lounges and bars. Additionally, there are family-focused options, like a movie theater and a bowling center. The restaurants include fine-dining establishments, casual eateries, a buffet and a food court with fast food offerings.

    Golf

    • Summerlin is home to numerous private and public golf courses, but the course most golfers want to play is TPC Summerlin. Previous home of the PGA Tour Championship and the Las Vegas Senior Classic and current location for the Las Vegas Invitational and the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, TPC Summerlin was designed by Bobby Weed, Fuzzy Zoeller and Raymond Floyd. The par-72 course winds through the desert and boasts beautiful flora and stunning water features. The clubhouse features a lounge, a pool with a poolside cafe, a patio grill, a dining room, meeting facilities, lighted tennis courts and banquet space.

    Shopping

    • The Canyon Pointe shopping center, located at the 215 Western Beltway and Charleston Boulevard, is one of the larger shopping areas in Summerlin. Retail tenants include Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Borders, Costco, Lowe's, Office Depot and Marshall's. Restaurants include Islands, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, Olive Garden and Agave Mexican Restaurant.

      The Boca Park shopping area is also large and popular. It is found at the intersection of Fort Apache Road and Charleston Boulevard. The retailers in the Boca Park area include Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, REI, Whole Foods Market, Sports Chalet and Target. PF Chang's China Bistro, Kona Grill, The Cheesecake Factory and Gordon Biersch are among the restaurants visitors will find at Boca Park.
