Pet Friendly Hotels in Cape Cod, MA

When New England thaws in the spring and summer seasons, tourists flock to the Cape Cod, Massachusetts, area to take advantage of fishing and boating activities from the marinas in Provincetown and Plymouth. Tourists are not the only ones who can enjoy summertime in Cape Cod, since many of the area's hotels allow pets to stay with their owners. The Cape Cod area also has recreation areas that permit dogs, including Shawme-Crowell State Forest.

  1. Land's End Inn

    • According to the "New York Times," the Land's End Inn provides scenic views of Provincetown Harbor from its position on Gulf Hill. This inn is lodged on 1 acre in a house that was built in 1907. The hotel's 17 guest rooms and common areas are furnished with antique furniture, and one of the suites, the Schoolman Suite, has two bedrooms, a library and a living room area. A gourmet breakfast is prepared by the staff every morning, and guests have the option of dining indoors or outdoors. Pets may stay for a $50 fee on the first night, and a $10 fee on every night thereafter, as of fall 2010.

      The hotel is only a five-minute drive from the marinas on Provincetown Harbor, which offers fishing charters and docks for boating activities. The Pilgrim Monument, which was built in the early 20th century, is only a 10-minute drive from the hotel, and is adjacent to the exhibits at the Provincetown Museum. Off-site dining is available within five minutes of the hotel on Commercial Street, which faces the waterfront, and Bradford Street.

    Skaket Beach Motel

    • The Skaket Beach Motel in Orleans allows pets to stay for a nightly fee of $12 per pet, as of fall 2010. The hotel does not enforce any weight limit on pets; however, pets are only allowed at the motel from September through June, as of fall 2010. According to the Visit New England tourism website, the motel is surrounded by a forest on its property, and the forest has gardens and picnic areas with barbecue grills. Other hotel features include an outdoor swimming pool, and the guest rooms have modern furniture pieces and refrigerators.

      The hotel is within 10 minutes of beach activities at Skaket Beach on Cape Cod, and Nauset Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Dogs are allowed to play with their owners at Nickerson State Park, a 1,900-acre recreation area less than 10 minutes away from the hotel. Off-site dining is available on the Cranberry Highway, including the casual, intimate Beacon Room and Hearth 'n Kettle, which serves seafood cuisine. Both restaurants are within walking distance of the motel.

    Lamb and Lion Inn

    • The Lamb and Lion Inn is on the southern coast of Cape Cod in Barnstable and allows pets to stay for a nightly fee of $25 but stops charging once you have paid for four nights, or $100, as of fall 2010. Only two pets are allowed per room, and each pet must weigh under 30 lbs. According to the "Boston Globe," the Lamb and Lion Inn is in a converted 1740 cottage. Six of the guest rooms have kitchenettes, while three of them offer lofts that are used for bedroom space. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, whirlpool tub and shower facility. Yoga classes and massage therapies are offered at the hotel's spa. A breakfast buffet is provided every morning, and guests may dine in the dining room area or by the pool.

      The hotel offers complimentary use of beach umbrellas and chairs, which guests can take to Barnstable's dog-friendly beaches. Some of these beaches include Kalmus Beach and Sandy Neck Beach, and both are within five minutes of the hotel. Dogs are allowed to be off their leash, but they are only permitted on the beach from May through September.
