Washington State is known for its breath-taking scenery and opportunities for outdoor activities. While many tourists have become weary of overcrowded resorts, military personnel and their dependents can escape the hassle by using military-restricted resort sites. Military-restricted resorts are less crowded but still offer a variety of amenities and can be found in scenic locations around Washington.
The Jim Creek Recreation Area is a resort open to active-duty personnel, Department of Defense civilians, sponsored guests, retired military and reservists. The resort is located in Arlington, about an hour and a half north of Seattle. It is open seven days a week, providing overnight accommodations during the weekends and holidays. The resort includes individual facilities for campsites and cabins with or without electricity .Jim Creek also offers a fitness center, ball fields, game room, equipment rentals and playground. Guests may engage in a variety of activities including fishing, camping, hiking, boating and biking.

The Pacific Beach Resort is located in Everett, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Guests must be active duty personnel, National Guard, reservists, retired military or Department of Defense civilians in order to enjoy resort benefits. The resort is known for its panoramic views of the ocean and cozy atmosphere. Resort amenities include a fitness area, outdoor tether-ball, volleyball net, fitness equipment, four-lane bowling alley, sauna and hot tub. Each cabin contains three to four fully-furnished bedrooms, kitchen, and fireplace. If guests prefer not to stay in a cabin or camp-out area, Pacific Beach offers several suites in their hotel. RVs are welcomed at the resort and are offered power, cable, picnic table, showers and water.

The Clear Lake Recreation Area is a 34-acre resort located in the Fairchild Air Force Base in Cheney. Guests must be active duty military personnel, retired personnel, National Guard personnel, Department of Defense employees and Armed Forces Reservists and their dependents. The resort offers a variety of cabins along Clear Lake, equipped with an outhouse, microwave, grill, mini-fridge and heater/AC unit. Each cabin can sleep up to six people. The Clear Lake Recreation Area provides guests with picnic areas, snack bar, convenience store, playground and equipment rental. Guests can participate in numerous activities including boating, fishing, swimming, camping and hiking. The resort is only open year-round from April to September.

Fort Lewis Travel Camp is an outdoor recreation facility located along American Lake in Fort Lewis. Access to the resort is restricted to active duty personnel, National Guard members, reservists, retired military and Department of Defense civilians. Cabins are available year-round, and must be reserved at least three months ahead of time. The resort offers two types of cabins: large, one bedroom and studio-sized, each equipped with cable, full kitchenettes, stove, oven, pots, pans, microwave and table. Sofa beds are also available in case of unexpected guests. Guests can enjoy participating in activities such as fishing, swimming and boating. RVs are welcomed at the resort and offered lounge areas with coin-operated washing machines and dryers, showers, sewage dump station and TVs.
