Pittsburgh was once defined solely by its industry and this is clearly seen in the many hollow husks of old machine buildings and warehouse districts that dot the cityscape. Today, it is a populous college town, though its industry does still operate, and both attract visitors throughout the year. As such, hotels are commonplace throughout the city, many of which can be found in the city's southern half.
The Quality Inn chain of hotels is usually associated with nondescript buildings and bland furnishings. While this particular piece of Pittsburgh lodging may not impress on the exterior, the guest rooms are pleasantly decorated and nicely discounted. It is located near Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, as well as many of the major hospitals in the city. Courtesy shuttles are available to all of these locations as well as the airport. Free breakfast is included for every guest in addition to access to an exercise room. Those visiting on business can rent out the meeting room, which can hold up to 60 people.

Located on the crook of downtown Pittsburgh, where the city's three rivers meet, sits Pittsburgh's only riverfront hotel, the Sheraton Station Square hotel. Surrounded by the bustle of an area with many shops, restaurants, bars and clubs, this hotel places guests right across the river from the city center. An indoor pool and an exercise center is available to all guests, in addition to wireless Internet access. The on-site restaurant, Pittsburgh Rare, is a popular steakhouse that was one of Pittsburgh's best, according to a 2002 edition of "Pittsburgh Magazine."

Pittsburgh has a number of bed and breakfast options, but the Morning Glory Inn in the historic South Side neighborhood is one of the most popular. Rooms free up more between January and March, but it is typically filled up, so book early. This hotel is housed in a Victorian home from 1862 and caters to business travelers more than most bed and breakfasts. This is thanks to the wireless Internet it offers as well as a business retreat meeting facility, complete with video conferencing capabilities. Breakfast, of course, is prepared fresh daily. Each bedroom is individually decorated in classic Victorian décor, while the dining room boasts a fireplace and pinewood floors.
