Tybee Island is a tourist destination near Savannah, Georgia, and is the easternmost point in the state. The island offers a number of options for travelers who want to stay at an oceanfront hotel. As a kickoff to summer, the town holds an annual Beach Bum Parade in May, when spectators are armed with buckets and water guns to have a water war with parade participants.
DeSoto Beach Hotel dubs itself "Tybee's Only Beachfront Hotel," although there are actually several hotels on Tybee Island that are directly adjacent to the beach. The hotel has 37 rooms with microwaves, refrigerators, free Wi-Fi, a game room with an ocean view and direct beach access. The hotel is only a mile from the Tybee Lighthouse on Meddin Avenue. The lighthouse, which was built in the early 1700s, offers bird's-eye views of the ocean and the island for those willing to climb its 178 stairs.
