Puerto Rico is situated in the southwest corner of Gran Canaria, one of Spain's seven Grand Canary Islands. Tourists flock to Puerto Rico to enjoy nice weather, with the sun out nearly 365 days each year. It offers pristine beaches, exciting bars and discos and myriad water sport possibilities.
When vacationing in Puerto Rico, you have two beaches to choose from. Puerto Rico Beach is a manmade beach, surrounded by two harbors. If you get tired of sunning yourself, you can rent paddleboats and watch for dolphins. Amadores Beach, located just 20 minutes away by foot from Puerto Rico Beach, is famous for being one of Spain's nicest beaches. It is situated in the new section of Puerto Rico, and features white sand and blue waters. Amadores Beach is also home to a miniature golf course. In the surrounding area, you will find a myriad of shops, restaurants and bars. It is the perfect place to watch the sunset at the end of a long day.
If swimming is your forte, you can take a dip in the ocean or swim laps in one of two public swimming pools on Puerto Rico. If you are looking for something a bit more adventurous, you can try jet skiing, sailing, diving, big-game fishing and windsurfing. For families, taking a tour on a glass-bottomed boat is a popular activity, as it enables you to explore the underwater world without having to take any risky dives. Pleasure boat trips and dolphin watching cruises are also on offer.
Nightlife in Puerto Rico focuses on two main areas: the Shopping Center and the Europa Center. The Europa Center is the more laidback offering, generally appealing to older vacationers who nonetheless prefer not to go to bed too early. Here, you will find karaoke bars, family-oriented spots and bars where you can enjoy quiet drinks and conversation in the company of friends and fellow vacationers. The Shopping Center is the livelier of the two, with an array of bars and nightclubs offering various forms of live entertainment, as well as dance clubs and discos.
Most of the resort's restaurants can also be found at the Shopping Center and the Europa Center. They offer everything from Chinese, Indian, Mexican, and "all you can eat" buffets, to traditional fast food offerings such as Subway and McDonald's.
