Things to Do in Fajardo, Puerto Rico

Fajardo, located on the eastern side of Puerto Rico, borders the Atlantic Ocean and is a central hub for boating and sport-diving excursions. The city, nicknamed "La Metropolis del Sol Naciente" (the city that guards the sun of the Caribbean), boasts expansive natural areas, including rainforests, coral reefs and beaches. Visitors to Fajardo will find a few fun things to do in this city.
  1. Kayaking Puerto Rico

    • Kayaking Puerto Rico offers a number of boating, snorkeling and hiking trips exploring Puerto Rico. One of the main attractions is a kayaking excursion to one of Puerto Rico's most famous natural landmarks, the Bioluminescent Lagoon, so named because the plankton that live there are capable of producing their own natural glowing blue light. Families as well as groups can be accommodated on the tours.

    Seven Seas Beach

    • Seven Seas Beach, located on Route 987, is a small, pleasant public beach in Fajardo. The water is usually calm and snorkelers may enjoy exploring the nearby reef, which is home to coral, various fish and exotic sea creatures such as conch and sea cucumbers. This beach features gated parking, restroom and shower accommodations, and has lifeguard on duty as well as a restaurant. For those concerned about extra safety, police officers do guard the beach.

    Fajardo Lighthouse

    • Visit the Fajardo Lighthouse for a historical experience of Puerto Rico. The lighthouse, located in the Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Preserve, is one of the oldest lighthouses in Puerto Rico, dating back to 1882. The lighthouse houses a nature center on the lower level and an observation deck on the upper level, which provides an expansive view of the nature preserve as well as the sea and nearby islands off the coast.
