If your kids are baseball fans, try taking them to a local game. The Puerto Rico Baseball League has six teams from around the country. Baseball in Puerto Rico is a very popular sport, and athletes from their national league are constantly being discovered by U.S. major and minor league scouts. Admission to ballgames are cheap; at the the Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium, for example, tickets run $4 to $6 (April 2010) with a 50 percent discount for children.

Puerto Rico has many beautiful beaches; public beaches called "balnearios" are the most family friendly and the safest for kids, offering lifeguard services, bathroom and shower facilities as well as vendors who sell food and beach goods. The Seven Seas Beach, located in Fajardo, is an excellent spot for children to test the clean, shallow and calm waters. With a coral reef nearby, snorkeling and scuba are great activities for older children. For others, the beautiful sands are ideal for frolicking, taking a nice walk and building sand castles.
The Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park is a great place for young children, featuring a pirate cave, a mini-zoo and a lighthouse to explore. The pirate cave is an air-conditioned complex of pirate life dioramas and boat replicas for children to climb and play upon. There is an aquarium with fish and small sharks inside of the caves. The mini-zoo has parrots, donkeys and chickens. The lighthouse was built in 1898 and has many interesting nautical artifacts as well as great views of the ocean and island. Finally, there is a gift shop and a large playground. The staff is bilingual, and English maps of the park are available.
