Home to 3,000 alligators and a variety of birds, snakes, fish and reptiles, Everglades Alligator Farm allows children to hold snakes, take a ride on an airboat to see the Everglades and see wildlife in this fun setting.
Since 1938, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens has been a popular destination for families. The 83-acre garden allows children to see many species of palms and other tropical plants, and the Gardens holds special events for families in July, October and November.
Located to the southwest of downtown Miami, Monkey Jungle allows kids to over 30 different species of monkeys and primates in a protected wildlife habitat. The Jungle has daily monkey shows and is available for birthday parties.
Watson Island is the home to Miami Children's Museum a center for fun and hands-on learning specifically designed for children. The museum features a number of special exhibits during each year in addition to its permanent exhibits, which include a special ocean learning center for preschoolers.
The Miami Metro Zoo is another popular attraction for children. One of the zoo's most unusual areas is the Amazon and Beyond exhibit, which gives kids the chance to tour three separate areas that provide a taste of what rain forests are like in Central and South America.
