Elmira is a city located in southern New York in Chemung County approximately 87 miles southwest of downtown Syracuse's central business district. As of the 2008 census estimate, the population of Elmira was approximately 32,000 people. The climate of Elmira is typical of many cities in the northeast and is normally extremely cold during the winter months and hot and humid in the summer. Area attractions include the Chemung River, the National Soaring Museum and First Arena.
