Well known as a dangerous place Buenaventura is also used as a transit hub by many travelers each year. While thoroughly hazardous, Buenaventura has some excellent shopping and good street food for the adventurous soul. Nearby Juanchaco and Ladrilleros are great spots for whale watching and are worth a visit.
