Crystal City located in Zavala County, Texas is known as the 'Spinach Capital of the World'. Crystal city was first developed in 1905 by Carl F. Groos after he bought 10,000 acres of land. The town was named Crystal City due to the crystal clear water in the area. The first post office, school and railroad opened in Crystal City in 1908. There are several annual events and occasions held in Crystal city which include the Spinach Festival in November, which was first celebrated in 1936 and the Farmers market held every Tuesday between May and October and monthly Mystery Dinner's "Murder, Las Vegas Style!". World War II history can be experienced at the Crystal City Alien Camp. Crystal city is a popular destination for hunters and has several restaurants serving local cuisine and stores to explore.
