Cumberland Island is a barrier island off the Atlantic coast of southern Georgia. It is part of Camden County and can only be reached by the Cumberland Ferry or by boat. The ferry runs twice a day from St. Marys, Georgia, and no vehicles or bicycles are allowed on the ferry. The island's public areas are part of a national seashore that is run by the National Park Service, which makes sure there are no more than 300 people on the island at one time. The island has no stores, paved roads or trails, however bicycles are available for rent. Several hotels are within nine miles of the island as well.
The Greyfield Inn was a house built by Thomas and Lucy Carnegie in 1900 for their daughter, Margaret Ricketson. The hotel has 16 rooms decorated with family heirlooms and antiques. One night's stay includes a Southern breakfast, picnic lunch, gourmet dinner, snacks, soft drinks, cocktails, bicycles, guided tours and private ferry transportation. Fishing charters, massages and wedding packages are also available.
