Ipswich, South Dakota is a small town of approximately 1,000 residents. It is most known for its former resident J.W. Parmley who initiated the creation of the Yellowstone Trail, the first automobile route to span the country in the northern United States. Today, Ipswich has the J.W.     • In Ipswich, the pheasant hunting season starts the third Saturday in October and runs into December. You can reserve a hunting package and accommodations at the Homestead Hunting and Lodge. As of 2010, a package including a guided hunting tour and lodging is $300 per night. Customarily, groups of four to 18 stay for three to five nights, but the lodge is willing to accommodate a shorter or longer trip. The property has thousands of wild pheasants and you will be accompanied by an experienced guide and hunting dogs. The package also includes breakfast and lunch. In addition to comfortable, rustic rooms, the facility has a common room for socializing and a bird cleaning area. The Craven Corner restaurant is a few miles away and downtown Ipswich is approximately 15 minutes away.

    • Aberdeen, a city approximately a 30-minute drive away from Ipswich, has several motels including the Comfort Inn. As of 2010, rates start at $79.99 per night; choose from a room with one queen bed, two queen beds or one king bed.
