Jarvis Mountain Cabins in Kentucky

McKee, Kentucky, a small town settled in the late 1850s, serves as the county seat of Jackson County and lies along the rim of the Cumberland Plateau. McKee is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest, which includes more than 700,000 acres of ruggedly scenic forest lands spread across 21 counties in southern and eastern Kentucky. Visitors enjoy recreational activities such as boating, fishing, hunting and hiking. Jarvis Mountain Cabins provides accommodations in a rustic-style cabin with a number of modern amenities.

    • Jarvis Mountain Cabins, which welcomed its first guests in 1999, is on Lower Clover Bottom Road, set amidst gently sloping hills and woodlands. The cabin is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest, and hiking and ATV trails connect the cabin to the forest's S-Tree Recreation Area, which is less than 3 miles away via the trails. Jarvis Mountain Cabins is about 10 miles northeast of McKee and 16 miles southeast of Berea.

    Cabin Description

    • The two-story, two-bedroom cabin at Jarvis Mountain Cabins sleeps up to eight, with one bedroom offering a queen bed and the other a full-size bed and one twin bed. Two other beds are upstairs. The cabin also has central heat and air, cable television, a gas fireplace, a bathroom with shower and a full kitchen with cookware and utensils. A front porch wraps around the front and one side of the cabin, and the back side has a wooden deck with scenic views of the surrounding forest. All linens are included.

    Reservation Information

    • Jarvis Mountain Cabins is available for nightly, weekend and weekly rentals, with discounts for longer stays on a sliding scale. Reservations require a cash or check deposit for the first night's stay; credit cards are not accepted. Guests are asked to clean the cabin when renting for a night or weekend, but weekly housekeeping is provided for longer stays. Up to two pets are allowed at no extra charge.

    • Jarvis Mountain Cabins is affiliated with two other rental properties in the McKee region, both of which are within a 15-minute drive and owned by members of the same family. If the Jarvis cabin is full, the owner refers guests to the other locations. The remodeled Shady Lane Cottage, on Durham School Road, has two bedrooms and sleeps five, with a full kitchen, one bathroom, washer and dryer, free Internet access and cable television. Cain's Edgewood Cabin, along State Highway 89 North, is home to a rustic one-bedroom cabin and a small bed-and-breakfast inn.
