Popular as a "hunter's paradise," Laverne is often referred to as the Oil Capital of Northwest Oklahoma. According to the 2000 population census, Laverne had only a population of 1,097 and occupies less than one square mile of land. You might expect that the number of motels in a town this small would be few, but, surprisingly, there are several motels in Laverne to accommodate travelers.
