Choose a method for swapping houses. There are many websites available; such as Home Exchange, Home Xchange Vacation, Home for Exchange, etc. Most websites charge a small fee for listing your home and/or browsing other listings. You can also use a free public site such as craigslist.
Decide on your vacation destination. Narrow your search by looking for properties in your chosen area.
When you find a property you like, contact the owner through the site. You may have to contact several to find the right match. Begin a coorespondence with prospective owners by exchanging emails, photos, and telephone calls.
When you find the right place and both parties agree to the exchange, enter into a mutual contract. Most of the websites provide these protected agreements. If you're going about the swap independently, make sure you get the details in writing. Include the dates of the exchange, protection of potential damage, and any other conditions agreed upon. Consider having a lawyer look over your contract to make sure everything is included.
