Free Disney World upgrades are as unpredictable as those at other resorts. But the folks at Disney are there to make your dreams come true -- so if you book frequently, smile in the face of hotel mix-ups or happen to be there for a special occasion, there's a chance you may find yourself with the elusive free upgrade.
Staff can't offer you a free upgrade if all the rooms are full, so steer clear of the busiest times of year. These include Thanksgiving, Easter and the weeks before and after Christmas. June, July and early August are notoriously busy as well.
As at any hotel, staff is more likely to cater to your upgrade wishes if you're a frequent visitor. If you're visiting Disney World to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or an anniversary, leave a comment about it when you book your reservations and let staff know when you check in. There's no guarantee of an upgrade, but many travelers have posted anecdotes saying they were upgraded because of their special occasions.
