Determine how many rooms you need. If you are traveling with five people, you will need to select a resort with rooms large enough for your group, or get two connecting rooms. The cost of one larger room might be cheaper than the cost of two rooms for your entire stay.

    • 2

Determine how much you can spend. Disney has different classifications for its resorts and hotels, including value, moderate, deluxe and villas. Each classification of resort has its own price range, starting at value as the lowest, and deluxe and villas as the highest. Determine how much you can afford and are willing to spend for your accommodations and choose which classification of resort you want.

Decide recreational needs. Plan to stay at a deluxe resort if you want to take advantage of the amenities. Resorts such as Disney's Yacht and Beach Club offer guests a large pool, marina, children's activities and large recreational areas. Choose a value resort or moderate resort if you do not plan to spend much time at the resort or require a lot of recreation activities. If you are traveling with children, you might want to select a resort that offers on-site children's activity centers, such as the Polynesian Resort and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Select what extras you want. Choose a deluxe resort if you want to be spoiled when you are on vacation. Deluxe resorts offer services such as concierge, fancier restaurants, room service, valet parking and spas. Stay in a value resort if you just want to do your own thing during your vacation. Select a moderate resort if you are looking for a little taste of being spoiled. The higher up in Disney Resort Classification you choose, the more restaurant choices you will have, including table service, quick service and lounges.

Figure out your vacation's theme. Each of the Disney resorts has its own theme, including sports, movies, Africa and Mexico. The value resorts, such as the All-Star Resorts, offer fun, brightly colored buildings themed around music, movies and sports. For a pirate getaway, stay in one of the Caribbean Beach Resort's pirate rooms, complete with a pirate ship bed and decor. Escape to Africa and enjoy the atmosphere at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, where the animals of Africa are located just outside of your room's patio.
