Kentucky has many resorts that cater to vacationers with various preferences. Family-focused resorts tend to accept pets more often than high-end, luxury resorts. Pet owners may find that a resort with a campground as one of its lodging options is most likely to allow leashed animals and have pet-friendly trails or parks. Kentucky's outdoor attractions, like lakes, rivers, woods and caves, offer vacation options that the family dog can enjoy as well.
Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park is located in Gilbertsville near Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. The resort offers many options for activities and lodging, but the campground is the only accommodation that allows pets. Guests at the campground have access to the resort's services and recreational activities, and leashed pets are allowed on many trails within the state resort park.
The campground at Kentucky Dam Village features both primitive and modern campsites, a bath house, recreational programs, laundry facilities, a playground, dump station and more. Reservations are recommended, but are not necessary. (See Reference 1)

True to its name, Kentucky Lake's Big Bear Resort is on the shores of Kentucky Lake. The resort offers swimming, boating and other lake activities, and lodging in condos, townhouses, cottages and at a campground. Pets are only allowed at the campground fee-free as long as owners follow Big Bear Resort rules. The dog is not allowed in other areas of the resort, but there is a pet walk area within the campground. One dog per campsite is the maximum; any additional pets will have a fee. Pet owners must submit a current record of the animal's vaccinations. No pit bulls, rottweilers or mixes that include either are allowed. (See Reference 3)
Campsites are available for RV and tent campers, including 12 lakefront sites. Most campsites are modern, with options of full hookups, electricity and water and 50-amp electricity and water. Three sites are primitive.
