RV Camping in Flagstaff, Arizona

Flagstaff, Ariz., is located about 90 miles north of Phoenix in the middle of the state. Flagstaff is situated in the middle of three national forests, which offer visitors a variety of outdoor activities like skiing, fishing, hiking and swimming. Winters in Flagstaff bring snow that makes the nearby mountains attractive to skiers and other winter sports enthusiasts.

    • Eight RV parks and campgrounds are located within about five miles of one another near the intersections of Interstate 40 and Interstate 17 in Flagstaff. The parks are also located near the edge of the Tonto National Forest, which runs through the heart of Flagstaff. Kaibab National Forest is about 20 miles to the north of the RV parks, so there are plenty of places for campers to hike, fish and participate in outdoor activities around the area.

    Rates

    • Facilities like Black Bart's RV Park, Woody Mountain Campground and RV Park, Greer's Pine Shadows and the Flagstaff KOA cost around $30 per night, while Pinegrove Campground and Bonita Canyon Campground in the national forest cost around $10 per night. Kit Karson RV Park and J&H RV Park cost around $40 per night. All prices are as of May 2010.

    Amenities

    • Pinegrove and Bonita Canyon campgrounds in the national forest are inexpensive, but they do not come with many amenities. These two campgrounds do feature bath and shower facilities, but not much else. They do not offer any water or electric connections. All of the other RV parks feature full electric, water and sewer connections, bath, laundry and shower facilities and pull-through sites. Black Bart's is the only RV park that does not offer wireless Internet access.

    Weather

    • Summer camping in Flagstaff from June through September offers ideal weather conditions. Average high temperatures in Flagstaff range around 80 degrees, while the average low temperatures fall into the high 40s and low 50s. Fall camping in Flagstaff brings average high temperatures in the 50s and 60s, while low temperatures can fall into the 30s. Winters in Flagstaff can bring a lot of snow and average low temperatures that fall into the teens. Flagstaff receives almost 100 inches of snow annually, so snow skiing and other winter activities are popular among campers.

    Attractions

    • During the winter, the Arizona Snowbowl that is located about seven miles from Flagstaff is a popular attraction. The Snowbowl offers skiing, snowboarding and other winter snow sports, as well as mountain biking and hiking. Another popular Flagstaff attraction that is just four miles outside the city is the Arboretum at Flagstaff. It features a large wildflower collection, exotic plants and educational programs.
