Campgrounds in Flagstaff, Arizona

Flagstaff is a small town of about 50,000 people (according to U.S. Census data from 2000) in the mountains of northern Arizona. Surrounded by one of the largest pine forests in the world, Flagstaff sits at the base of the San Francisco Peaks mountain range at nearly 7,000 feet above sea level. Flagstaff offers an array of restaurants and shopping opportunities downtown, and easy access to outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking. There are several campgrounds available in this popular outdoor region.
  1. Woody Mountain Campground

    • This family-operated campground is located near the intersection of Interstate 17 and Interstate 40, close to the historic Route 66 and about five miles south of downtown Flagstaff.

      Woody Mountain Campground features large, tree-shaded tent and RV sites, with accessible bath houses, hot showers, laundry rooms and free wireless Internet access. A general store and sandwich shop also are available on the site. Some pet restrictions do apply. Call ahead for reservations.

      Nearby attractions include: Arizona Snowbowl Scenic Skyride, a 90-minute cable car ride to an elevation of 11,000 feet, showcasing panoramic views of Flagstaff's pine forest and an extinct volcano; Walnut Canyon National Monument, a site of cliff dwellings over 700 years old; and the Flagstaff Arboretum, a 200-acre botanical garden and education center.

    Flagstaff KOA Campgrounds

    • Five miles north of downtown Flagstaff, Flagstaff KOA Campgrounds offers a combination of modern amenities and rustic tent sites, including one-room cabins, oversized patio sites and authentic "tee-pees" with running water and electricity. A business center with cable television, free wireless Internet access also is available as well as two laundry facilities with clean restrooms and showers.

      The camp site also offers free movie nights and televised sporting events by satellite on the facility's large plasma screen TV. All-you-can-eat dinners and breakfasts are provided daily. Flagstaff KOA Campgrounds promotes itself as a "green" campground, with on-site recycling facilities.

      Nearby attractions also include the Grand Canyon, one of the natural wonders of the world, which is a one-hour drive from the campgrounds; and the scenic red rocks of Sedona, which are about 30 miles from the camp site.

    Munds Park RV Resort

    • About 20 miles south of downtown Flagstaff, Munds Park RV Resort is located immediately adjacent to the Coconino National Forest. The campgrounds are accessible to RVs, campers and big rigs. Facilities are open April 1 to November 1, and include 370 sites, two laundromats, cable television, free wireless Internet, hot showers and clean restrooms, a game room, fitness room, picnic tables, and a heated pool and spa.

      Munds Park is centrally located to area attractions and is 15 miles from Sedona and just over 100 miles to the Grand Canyon.
