Arizona Trail Campgrounds

The scenic 800-mile Arizona Trail goes from Mexico to Utah, traversing the entire length of Arizona. The trail has much to offer vacationers, including national forests, deserts, mountain ranges and historic sites such as the Roosevelt Dam. The Arizona Trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers and backpackers and is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.
  1. Frazier Campground

    • Located on the shore of Roosevelt Lake in Arizona, Frazier Campground offers 11 campsites with shade ramadas, grills, fire rings and picnic tables. The campground also has a group campsite, capable of holding 100 campers, but this requires a reservation. Two campsites are wheelchair accessible, as are the bathrooms and picnic tables. Horses are allowed but there are no facilities for them. Hikers, bikers and horseback riders can reach the Arizona Trail from the campground by following the Cottonwood Canyon Trail south. Frazier Campground also offers access to water activities on Lake Roosevelt, including fishing, swimming and boating. Campers can also explore attractions in Roosevelt, Arizona, such as the historic Roosevelt Dam, which is 2 miles from the campground.

    Gordon Hirabayashi Campground

    • Situated in the mountains of Coronado National Forest, Gordon Hirabayashi Campground offers scenic views of the area's wildlife and Molino Canyon. A historic site, the campground was once a prison camp housing the inmates who built the Catalina Highway. Remnants of the prison camp can still be seen. Open year-round, Gordon Hirabayashi Campground offers 12 campsites with fire grills, picnic tables and bathrooms. Drinking water and full hookups for recreational vehicles are not available, but the campground allows horses and provides a corral. Pets are allowed but must be leashed at all times. Hikers have easy access to the Arizona Trail, which passes through the campground.

    Molino Basin Campground

    • On the slopes of the Santa Catalina Mountains, at 4,500 feet, Molina Basin Campground is open in the early spring, winter and late fall. Its 37 campsites have picnic tables and fire grills and are located on the banks of Molino Creek and in the desert grasslands. The campground has a new wheelchair-accessible group campsite with ramadas, a restroom and a large fire ring. Campsites are surrounded by cottonwood trees, Arizona live oaks, mesquite and rocky hills. Recreational vehicles and trailers under 22 feet are allowed but there are no hookups. The Arizona Trail passes through the campground.
