Just seven miles south of Portal on the banks of Cave Creek sits the small Herb Martyr Campground, named after Herb Martyr. Nearby is a dam originally built in 1935, but that has since been filled in with sediment and debris. Herb Martyr was a worker who was killed during the construction of the dam. The campground features seven individual sites. One site is positioned on the banks of the stream, while the other six sites are located on the bench of Cave Creek. Tables, fire grills and toilets are the only amenities offered.
