Yellowstone summers are mild and dry. Daytime highs typically range from 50°F to 70°F (10–21°C). Nighttime lows can drop below freezing, even in July. Extremes: record high 97°F (36°C) on July 13, 1988; record low −60°F (−51°C) on February 9, 1933 (winter). Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Layered clothing is essential year-round.
