Travel Newsletter Ideas

Writing a travel newsletter on a regular basis is a great way for travel agencies and others in the industry to get their company's name out there. But topics for the newsletter don't have to be stale or uninteresting. They should include bright, attractive photos of tourists engaging in activities and should have destinations that are targeted to the agency's type of clientele. Organizing the newsletters in certain ways will make them more effective and memorable.
  1. Holiday/Special Occasion-Themed Newsletters

    • Themed newsletters can catch readers' attention, especially if they are planning a special getaway. Theme your newsletter around articles targeted to people planning holiday occasions, anniversaries or birthdays, or weddings. Ensure that each article in the newsletter is slanted with these occasions in mind. If you publish 12 newsletters a year, theme them around any holidays or occasions that occur in that month, such as a Valentine's Day newsletter in February about romantic destinations.

    Budget-Based Newsletters

    • Many people travel, and not all have the same budget requirements. Some can afford to fly to their destinations in rented planes, while others must take the family car. Tailor your newsletters to the budgets that best fit your clientele's needs. Don't include articles about high-class and high-cost destinations if your clients are working-class individuals who would benefit from learning about destinations they can afford.

    Activities-Based Newsletters

    • Many travelers plan trips with very specific activities in mind. Skiers, for example, will be searching for articles detailing the best ski locations, other snow activities, travel fares and the best lodging. Theme several newsletters throughout the year around seasonally appropriate activities. Consider comparing several similar activity destinations and listing each place's high and low points, giving your clients several options to choose from when planning their trip. Consider offering a coupon if they use your services to book whichever destination they choose.

    Geographically Themed Newsletters

    • Every once in a while, newsletters that focus on one particular destination will resonate with your clientele. Write or find several articles about a particular destination, such as New York City or Las Vegas, and arrange them throughout your newsletter. Ensure that the articles cover activities, dining, lodging and some not-so-well-known travel tips. Be careful not to publish this type of newsletter frequently -- if clients see newsletters about places they don't want to visit, they could potentially become immune to or ignore your future newsletters.
