How to Earn Air Miles for Paying Bills

Accumulating air miles is easier today than when the clubs first started. Many banks and airlines offer special credit cards that provide miles with each dollar spent, often at a minimum of a one-to-one ratio. Become a smart consumer and put these credit cards to work for you in your everyday affairs such as paying bills. Many utility and service companies allow you to pay bills using credit cards. Set yourself up to pay your bills with the air-miles-building credit card.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply for a bank-issued credit card with air-miles benefits. If you have a preferred airline, find a card with miles benefits related to that airline. For example, Alaska Airlines offers credit cards through several major banks including Bank of America and Chase.

    • 2

Contact your utility companies and service providers to setup auto-pay. Provide the companies with the bank-issued air-mile credit-card number for auto-pay.

    • 3

Get creative and use the credit card to pay bills other than water, gas, electric and sewer. Contact cell-phone providers or satellite-TV companies if you use these services. Arrange to do auto-pay with the air-mile credit cards or else simply pay the bill each month with the credit card.

    • 4

Check each month for any promotions or added mile benefits with your card. For example, one major airline credit card offered double miles over a 30-day period if used with certain cell-phone providers. Take advantage of these promotions to earn added miles with the credit card.
