Look around and find companies that rent to individuals under the age of 25, including Enterprise, Hertz and National. These companies will rent to individuals that are at least 21 years of age, however, there may be a surcharge or "Age Differential Charge" for the rental.
Pay the surcharge to rent the car. Though it may be a little bit more expensive, it may be the only way you will be able to rent a car for your trip. On average, car rental companies will charge a $25 per day surcharge, that is non-refundable, in addition to your daily rental fee.
Be prepared to not be able to rent the car of your dreams. Most rental car companies will restrict the type of car an individual under the age of 24 is allowed to rent. At the age of 24 chances are you will not be able to rent a van, SUV, sports car or other luxury vehicle. Most likely, you will be given a compact, economy or full-sized car as a rental.
If you are traveling for business, some companies, such as Alamo, will allow those between the ages of 21 and 24, using a corporate account, to rent a car. Sometimes a car rental company may waive the underage rental surcharge if arrangements are made through your company, prior to arriving for your rental pick up.
Keep a good driving record. While a clean record is not a guarantee that you will be able to rent a car, a poor driving record, with multiple accidents and/or tickets, may prevent you from renting a car at all.
