The historic Rosedale Plantation is another common activity for locals and tourists. The Rosedale Plantation was built by Archibald Frew in 1815. In the 1830s, the house was purchased by D.T. Caldwell, who ran a medical practice out of the plantation. Cotton was grown on the plantation but was only sold locally. The Rosedale Plantation also had a saw mill, blacksmith shop, cotton mill and press and an orchard. Rosedale was built in the Federal style of architecture and features grained woodwork throughout the house and original French wallpaper in three of its rooms.
Visitors to the Rosedale Plantation can receive 1 to 1/2 hour tours of the 13-room house and gardens given by a docent. The Rosedale Plantation recommends making reservations for parties over 15 people. The plantation also has special events on occasion, such as a Ghost Walk and a Midnight Tour.
