Things to Do in Charlotte, NC

Located in southwestern North Carolina, Charlotte is the state's largest city as well as the seat of Mecklenburg County. Charlotte residents and visitors to the area have several things to do in this large metropolitan city such as attending a Carolina Panthers football game, visiting the Rosedale Plantation or walking through the NoDa arts district.
  1. Carolina Panthers Football Games

    • Charlotte is home to National Football League team, the Carolina Panthers. The team is a member of the southern division of the National Football Conference, or NFC. The Carolina Panthers became an expansion team of the NFL in 1995. The team plays in Bank of America Stadium, which is located in uptown Charlotte and holds 73,778 people.

      Ticket prices for Carolina Panthers home games start at $39, as of 2010. Sports fans can also throw birthday parties and special events at the Bank of America Stadium.

    Rosedale Plantation

    • The historic Rosedale Plantation is another common activity for locals and tourists. The Rosedale Plantation was built by Archibald Frew in 1815. In the 1830s, the house was purchased by D.T. Caldwell, who ran a medical practice out of the plantation. Cotton was grown on the plantation but was only sold locally. The Rosedale Plantation also had a saw mill, blacksmith shop, cotton mill and press and an orchard. Rosedale was built in the Federal style of architecture and features grained woodwork throughout the house and original French wallpaper in three of its rooms.

      Visitors to the Rosedale Plantation can receive 1 to 1/2 hour tours of the 13-room house and gardens given by a docent. The Rosedale Plantation recommends making reservations for parties over 15 people. The plantation also has special events on occasion, such as a Ghost Walk and a Midnight Tour.

    NoDa Arts District

    • The NoDa Arts District is another common spot for locals and visitors in Charlotte. The NoDA Arts District is located at North Davidson and 36th Street in north Charlotte. The area was originally filled with textile factories in the early part of the 20th Century and was revitalized by two artists, Paul Sires and Ruth Ava Lyons, in the 1980s. The district now has 11 art galleries, as well as several restaurants, shops, music venues and theaters.
