How to Handcraft a Beach Cabana

Instructions

    • 1

Spray paint all of the PVC pipes and fittings/joints with the matte silver spray paint. Allow them to dry completely before continuing.

    • 2

Use a hacksaw to cut two of the 10' PVC pipes into 7' long pieces. Lay them on the ground parallel to each other. Slide two curtains over each of these pipes. Place a "T" shaped PVC connector at each end of the two pipes. Push the pipe ends into each of the connectors. Now, take two more of the 10' long pieces of pipe and slide the remaining four cabana curtains onto them, two per pipe. Connect their ends into the "T" shaped connectors as well to form a large rectangle. One end of the "T" shaped connectors should still be free and not in use.

    • 3

Cut four 1 ½" pieces from the PVC scrap that was cut from the two 7' pipes. These pieces will serve as connectors between the "L" and "T" shaped joints. Place the end of each 1 ½" PVC piece into the end of an "L" joint and then push the still exposed portion into the open end of a "T" joint. Turn the "L" shaped joints down until they face towards the ground.

    • 4

Measure and cut four 16" pieces from the ABS pipe. Now wrap a piece of masking tape around each piece, 12" from one end. Use a post hole digger to dig a 12" hole where the right front leg of the finished cabana will be. Place one of the marked ABS pipe pieces into the hole and make sure that the masking tape is flush with the ground. Use the level to ensure that it is vertical and then fill in the hole, securing it in place.

    • 5

Cut the remaining four 10' long PVC pipes into 8' pieces. These will be the legs of the cabana. Use the scraps from these pipes to determine where to dig the holes for the remaining legs. Place a short piece of PVC into one of the "L" shaped joints and push it down into the ABS pipe that was just secured in the ground. Now , fit a short piece of PVC into the remaining "L" joints and mark off where the pipes touch the ground by using a short burst from a spray paint can to color the ground. Use the post-hole digger to dig the remaining three holes for the beach cabana's legs. Remember to level each piece of ABS pipe before filling in the holes and securing them into the ground.

    • 6

Remove the short pieces of PVC from the "L" joints and insert the 8' pieces that were cut. With an assistant, lift the structure up and insert each leg into an ABS pipe. Push down on each leg to ensure that the frame is secure and in place.

    • 7

Secure each joint of the frame by using the electric drill and the self-tapping screws. One screw per joint will be adequate enough to hold the structure together.
