Instructions

    • 1

Check the weather. Before planning a trip to the beach, make sure the weather is supposed to cooperate. If the forecast predicts rain, thunder or even extreme heat, skip the beach for another day.

    • 2

Pick the perfect beach for your day. Rather than heading to the first beach you see, do a little research to find a beach that fits your ideal day at the beach. For instance, a beach with gentle waves and sand bars may be better suited for a family with children while a surf fanatic may appreciate a beach with serious waves. Also be sure to check the facilities that are available at the beach, especially if you want a beach with a restroom, showers, snack bar or other things.

    • 3

Put on sunscreen and wear sunglasses. Lather on a layer of sunscreen before you leave home, so your skin has time to absorb its protection. Be sure to wear your bathing suit when you put sunscreen on, so you'll know exactly where it needs to be applied. Reapply sunscreen throughout the day every couple of hours and after you get out of the water.

    • 4

Pack a travel-friendly picnic, including lots of water to keep you hydrated. Food like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, grapes, crackers and fruit snacks travel well and will not spoil in the heat. Bringing our own food guarantees you'll have something to eat and saves money.

    • 5

Fill up your automobile's trunk with the necessary beach accessories, such as a blanket, beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. If you're going with kids, be sure to bring some sand toys as well as any safety devices they need, such as water wings.

    • 6

Obey all posted signs, along with any warnings or instructions given by the beach staff or lifeguards. Stay out of restricted areas and get out of the water if you are told to do so.

    • 7

Be safe. Refrain from rowdy behavior on the sand and in the water. Keep an eye on your beach buddies, and report immediately if someone goes missing.

    • 8

Bring a change of clothes. After a day in the sand and the salty water, you won't want to ride home wearing your soggy suit. At the bath house, rinse off in a shower, then change into some fresh, dry duds.
