How to Make a Portable Beach Cabana

A beach cabana is a type of shelter with one side open. It offers a bit of privacy and provides shade and protection from the sun. The frame is made from light weight poles, such as PVC piping, and is portable and easy to set up. Beach cabanas vary in size and are relatively easy to make.

Things You'll Need

  • Two sections 10-foot by 1 1/2-inch PVC pipe
  • Two sections 7-foot by 1 1/2-inch PVC pipe
  • Four sections 8-foot by 1 1/2-inch PVC pipe
  • Four sections 1 1/2inch by 1 1/2-inch PVC pipe
  • Four 1 1/2-inch L-shape pipe fittings
  • Four 1 1/2-inch T-shape pipe fittings
  • Four ready-made curtain panels

Instructions

      Assemble the top frame of the cabana from the two 7-foot pipes and the two 10-foot pipes using the T-shape pipe fittings at each corner. This will give you a rectangular lounge space of 7 by 10 feet.

      Use the 1 1/2-inch long PVC pipes to connect the T-shape fitting to the L-shape fittings at each corner. Attach the 8-foot pipes to the L-shape fittings to make the legs.

      Hang ready-made curtain panels on the back and side sections of the frame. Arrange the panels to dress it up and use curtain ties as needed.

      Attach string to the top corners of the frame and pull the string tight to the ground. Fasten the string with tent stakes to secure the cabana.
