Cancun, on the eastern side of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, has a 25-kilometer hotel zone offering plenty of temporary accomodation designed to cater specifically for children.
Club Med, a luxury hotel set in 22 acres, offers a kid's club that gives children the chance to learn how to swing from a trapeze, edit videos, make jewelery, dance hip-hop, DJ and participate in traditional water-related activities.
Another option is the Great Parnassus Resort and Spa, located at the southern end of the hotel zone. Catering mainly to children and teenagers, this 12-story hotel includes five swimming pools; watersports at a nearby marina;, tennis and basketball courts; a 400-seat theater featuring a selection of family films: a Treasure Island waterpark with pirate ship replicas and waterslides; and an indoor miniature golf course.
The action-packed kid's clubs are for children ages 18 months to 18 years.
Acapulco is not traditionally thought of as a being a vacation locale for children, but hotels there generally offer plenty to keep the young entertained and amused.
The Mayan Palace Resort, for example, only five minutes' drive from Acapulco's international airport, offers a supervised kid's club. Guests can choose from an 18-hole golf course, 12 tennis courts, a 2,625 foot swimming pool, a gym and a waterpark, complete with slides and waterfalls.
The Fiesta Americana provides daily activities for children ages four to 12, including crafts, board games and movies screened in the open air. There are also karaoke nights, two swimming pools, a beach club and a health club and spa.
The Fairmont Acapulco Princess, located on the seafront, is made up of three 15-story buildings made to look like Aztec pyramids. In addition to a kid's club, the resort includes five pools, five tennis courts, a golf course and a fitness club.
Puerto Vallarta is a seaside resort in the state of Jalisco on Mexico's west coast.
The child-friendly Hotel Canto Del Sol, located close to the downtown area, is right on the beach and includes a big pool, a kid's pool, non-motorized watersports, a kid's club, gym and tennis courts.
The Hotel Mexican Resort at Los Tules has five tennis courts and a total of seven swimming pools, four of which are for kids. Watersports are also available at the resort. There isn't an organized kid's club, but the selection of activities on offer should make up for that.
Another option is the Holiday Inn, situated in the center of the hotel zone, close to numerous shops and restaurants and equidistant between the downtown area and the airport. As well as the standard kid's pool and full-size pool, there is also an organized children's activity program, two tennis courts, a basketball court and Internet access.
